One of the surprise discoveries for our staff at the GetMeRecruited/LBI SeasonTip-Off Classic was 6’5 junior Shelby Darden. Tucked away and with little fanfare in Hickory, NC, Shelby emerged as a prospect with some serious upside. She had a huge presence in the middle, showing how hard she would fight for rebounds and to block shots. At one point she was swatting everything in sight for several possessions in a row. She runs the floor extremely well and has great stamina. Although she could benefit from some more strength training, her work ethic gave her the edge to complete and-1 plays. We’re looking forward to seeing Shelby compete in the Super 60 Showdown May 4th in Raleigh to see how well she competes against a very strong group of high school girls. Two things are for sure, Shelby Darden is a project worth investing into and secondly, it’s true that there’s gold up in them mountains.
